Full Project Outline
I have audacious plans.
The Mad Knives project includes 5 full length albums, with accompanying movies for each of them. AND 2 drum method books that explain the grooves and ideas behind all of the music, because it’s all in 5, naturally.
Some of this is done already, much of it is yet to come. This website is currently devoted to the first album, but here is a timeline of the entire project, with descriptions of each piece.
The 10/8 Drum Method: Quintuplet Drum Grooves for Modern Backbeat Music - My first book, this is a comprehensive drum method book that includes the inspirations for every groove found on the first two Mad Knives albums/movies.
The Mad Knives - The first album and movie. Keyboard/synth heavy music and a 3D animated movie following the story of what happens to humanity when a rogue planet collides with the Earth and everybody escapes in groups of 5 on makeshift spaceships.
Untitled 2nd Album - Guitar riff centered music filled with bent shuffle quintuplet drum grooves. The story follows our little band (The Mad Knives) as they meet other ships and other survivors. Ships get fixed. Relationships bend and break. Mutiny on The Radio Flyer.
Untitled 2nd Drum Method Book - In the second drum book, I’ll outline how to translate quintuplets into swing and Latin styles, laying the groundwork for the music found in the next three albums.
Untitled 3rd Album - Quintuplet based big-band vocal music, the movie will be in the style of film noir. The Mad Knives make it back to the previous location of Earth and find many more survivors who have joined their ships together in a massive mechanical attempt at recreating the former planet. Old flames are rediscovered.
Untitled 4th Album - Quintuplet based Latin big-band music, the movie will be colorful and joyful. The Mechanic runs off to an entirely different part of the new Earth to discover themselves in a new culture.
Untitled 5th Album - Ecstatic quintuplet instrumental bop, music and movie will combine all the previous styles. A new spiritual echelon is discovered and magical things occur.
